The Federal Police arrested two people red-handed during an operation to combat the illegal trade in wood taken from Indigenous Lands in Rondônia. The action took place between April 16th and 19th. The teams positioned themselves on the main transport routes for illegal timber, in indigenous areas such as the Pacarana and 14 de Abril district regions. The first person was arrested on the 16th, driving a truck loaded with 200 strips of chestnut wood without documentation. The man was taken and released on bail. The second suspect was arrested on the 19th, when police officers approached a truck with wooden logs. The vehicle had no identification plate. He was also taken to the PF base. The man was in possession of a radio communicator which, according to the PF, is frequently used by those who transport illegal wood from indigenous lands, with the aim of evading inspections. The truck, wood, radio communicators and cell phones of the suspects were seized by the PF during the action.
