MANAUS, BRAZIL - During the first two months of 2026, security forces in Brazil’s Amazonas state seized more than 14 tons of narcotics during operations carried out on rivers, in inland municipalities and in the state capital, Manaus. The total represents twice the amount of drugs — including marijuana and cocaine — confiscated during the same period in 2025.
Authorities say intensified patrol and enforcement efforts have contributed to the rise in seizures during the first two months of the year. In February alone, more than 10 tons of drugs were seized, according to the Military Police.
In addition to the seizures, investigations have also dismantled criminal groups specializing in the financial operations linked to drug trafficking. Strategies involving data analysis, route monitoring and coordination between state and federal security forces have been key to the success of the operations, the Amazonas Civil Police said.
The Amazonas state government has also expanded investments in new security equipment, with a focus on strengthening efforts to combat drug trafficking across the Brazilian Amazon.
